Kuwait canceled 1.5GW Al-Dabdaba solar PV Power project

olar photovoltaic (PV) power project, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The cabinet clear to cancel the 1.5GW Al-Dabdaba solar project due to the spread of coronavirus and its effect on the global oil and financial business,” it said after meeting.

The project, which was to be carried out via Kuwait National Petroleum Company, was supposed to begin operating in February 2021. 

The bid results for the project were published during April 2019.

Kuwait had plans to produce 15percent of its energy through renewable sources by 2030.

The project was a target at set up a solar power plant within the Al-Shikaya Complex for Renewable Energy, which is situated 100km west of Kuwait City, on about 32 sq-km. The operations and maintenance period were 25 years.
