Hill International secured $318 million Egyptian hospital revamp project

Hill International has secured a contract to provide construction management services for the $318m Kasr Al-Ainy Hospitals refurbishment project for Cairo University in Egypt.

Under the contract, Hill International will offer project management services during the design, procurement, and execution phases of the project. The Kasr Al-Ainy Hospital, located in downtown Cairo in the University’s Faculty of Medicine campus, currently has 3,200 beds.

The detailed of the project will include the renovation of all the existing Kasr Al-Ainy hospital buildings and facilities. It will also involve the construction of any additional facility buildings if the need arises.

Hill International North Africa senior vice president Waleed Abdel Fattah said: “Kasr Al-Ainy is a landmark facility that traces its roots back to 1827. “This legacy of healing continues today, and this project will enable the hospital’s professionals to better serve their patients through dramatically improved efficiencies and expanded customised facilities. “Our team will bring Hill’s healthcare best practices from the region and around the world to help ensure the vision for Kasr Al-Ainy is realised safely, on time, and within budget.” The hospital renovation project is expected to transform the hospital into a facility organised by specialist departments instead of general care. It is also said to increase hospital capacity by some 300%. Around 2.2 million X-rays, 80,000 CT scans, and 45,000 ultrasounds are performed each year in the hospital, according to University officials.

Hill International CEO Raouf Ghali said: “Kasr Al-Ainy is the latest evidence of the strength of healthcare in Egypt specifically and of the Egyptian economy in general. “Our company continues to see mega-projects in healthcare and other sectors break ground after long periods of negotiation and coordination among various stakeholders. I expect similar progress on other healthcare projects across North Africa and the Middle East to continue for the foreseeable future.”
