Etihad Rail has assigned project package D civil and construction works deal for stage 2 of the UAE’s national railway.
The project has been awarded to the joint venture (JV) of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and the UAE’s National Projects & Construction (NPC). The project signed contract value for Etihad Rail’s Package D Works is $1.25 billion.
Package D will connect the ports of Fujairah and Khorfakkan to the network at the Dubai border with Sharjah, and strain over a distance of 145km. This will be allowing the transportation of up to 2million containers per year and promoting international trade. The Project scope of work comprises the construction of 15 tunnels via the Hajar Mountains with a total distance of 16km, as well as 35 bridges and 32 subway.
Earlier Projects assigned by Etihad Rail:
The first civil works package assigned to a Joint Venture (JV) China State Construction Engineering Corporation and South Korea’s SK Engineering. Project value of the contract is AED1.5 billion. As per the agreement, companies will build a rail line of 139km in the Al-Dhafra zone between Ghuweifat and Ruwais.
Package B & C:
The contracts for packages B and C were assigned to a Joint Venture (JV) of China State Construction Engineering Corporation and local contracting firm Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting. The total project value for both packages is AED4.4 billion. Package B drive for 216km, while package C runs for 94km. The packages are part of the 605km track from Ghuweifat to the Port of Fujairah.
